Sonder is an early stage project in collaboration with Josh McCoy and Mike Treanor at American University. As role-playing game (RPG) fans, we are interested in creating an RPG in which the social interactions make a difference in the world. To do this, we are leveraging the work we have done on the social-simulation AI framework, Ensemble.
Our prototype is a 2D RPG created with Unity. The prototype is set in a traditional RPG town, but interactions are reliant on Ensemble instead of dialog trees. As the player interacts with the townspeople, the social landscape of the world is influenced and has effects on how the townspeople treat the player and each other.
